First Aid for Dental Emergencies

Toothache
-Rinse the mouth with warm
-Utilize dental floss to dislodge food caught in between teeth
-Go to the dentist as soon as possible
 
Issues with Braces and Retainers
-Cover poking wires with a cotton ball, wax or gauze.
-Do not remove wire stabbed into any part of the mouth (go to the dentist or emergency room immediately).
-For broken braces or retainers, save the broken piece and go to the dentist.

Broken Tooth
-Clean the broken tooth with warm water.
-Cover the injured area with sterile gauze.
-Use a cold compress over the facial area next to the injured tooth.
-Go to the dentist as soon as possible.
-Bring along the broken piece if found.

Tooth that has been Knocked-Out
-Place the knocked-out tooth in a cup of milk or a solution made to preserve a tooth.
-As a last resort, put the tooth in a cup of cool water.
-Do not damage the knocked-out tooth's tissue. 
-Keep the tooth with the person at all times.
-It is important to get to the dentist quickly (within 30 minutes if possible) so that the tooth has a better chance of being saved.

Broken Jaw
-Apply cold compresses to the injured side of the jaw.
-Stabilize the jaw in place by tying a cloth around the jaw and over the head of the injured person.
-Go immediately to a hospital emergency room.
