-Instead of starting a diet, it is much better to merely change your eating
habits for life. If you don't think you can stick to it for more than a
month or two, don't even bother starting that particular diet.
-Small changes in what you eat can make a big difference. For example,
instead of eating a sandwich with mayo and cheese, try it without the extras and
see if you like it almost as much.
-There is nothing wrong with having sweets or treats.
Just try to increase the amount of time between eating these types of foods.
-If you find yourself eating out of habit instead of hunger, try to break the
habit. If you can't break the habit, then substitute the food you're
eating with fruit, vegetables or low-fat food.
-Once you stop growing, the amount of food you need to eat will decrease
dramatically. The problem is knowing when your body needs less
calories. If you find yourself full even though you're eating less, trust
your body and eat the lesser amount.
-Instead of starting an intense exercise program that you won't stick to, merely
integrate an aerobic type of activity into your life that you can do for the
long-run. Even if the activity increases your metabolism for 20 minutes
two times a week, it will help increase your metabolism rate even when you're
not exercising.
Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise or diet program.
